Rangitoto Island, New Zealand, is located approximately 25 minutes by ferry northeast of Auckland’s central business district (CBD). The island can be accessed by both private and commercial vessels. It is best to catch the first ferry and leave on the last. This way you can experience all the island has to offer. The island is a pest free nature reserve and prohibits camping. Wreck Bay (also known as Boulder Bay) is located on the northeastern side approximately 2 hours walk from Rangitoto Wharf. This is where the vessels were abandoned and now lay scattered along the shoreline.
The baches are located in three separate communities: Islington Bay community, located at the northern most point of Islington Bay (used to be called Drunks Bay); Rangitoto Wharf community at Rangitoto Wharf where the ferry stops; and Beacon End at McKenzie Bay to the west of the island.
