Archaeology survey’s require different pieces of equipment and not just an iPad. Each day, in addition to the iPad, we carry:
- 3 tape measures (1m, 5m and 50m)
- 3 cameras
- 2 GPS units/compass
- Spare batteries (AA)
- Compass
- Range pole/photographic scale (1.75m)
- 4 Scale cards (8cm)
- A north arrow
- A notebook
- Pens and pencils
This is spread over 2 bags with lunch and personal (warm/waterproof) clothes. If you are traveling to a remote location, always take extra as you never know when you might need it! /KB
Behind the bungalow atHome Bay there is a large old anchor pulled out of the bay laat summer. An Admiralty Anchor. Information would nice, for interpretation by the Motutapu Restoration Trust.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for your comment. It will be hard to form a detailed interpretation because the anchor is no longer in situ. It would be an exciting project to look at in the future, however, it is outside the focus area of my study and I won’t have time to get to it. If you or the Motutapu Trust would like to investigate the anchor yourselves, please see the Big Anchor Project (http://www.biganchorproject.com/). This is an international initiative that allows anyone to record an anchor and upload it to their database. The recording form can be found here http://www.biganchorproject.com/images/stories/docs/stocked_recording_proforma.pdf). I hope this helps. Cheers, Kurt.
